La Clusaz has selected the DAT’Mountain solution, developed by DATIVE in collaboration with SEIREL, to optimize its energy management while maintaining high service quality for visitors.

Discover how La Clusaz reduces its carbon footprint and optimizes operations using the DAT’Mountain monitoring solution.

Faced with the challenges of climate change, ski resorts must adopt structured strategies to reduce their carbon footprint. La Clusaz has deployed the DAT’Mountain solution, developed by DATIVE in collaboration with SEIREL, to optimize energy management while maintaining service quality.

Ski resorts and the climate challenge

Given the critical need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, ski resorts like La Clusaz are implementing long-term solutions. The objective: approach carbon neutrality by optimizing every operational parameter.

The La Clusaz dual-track strategy for sustainability

La Clusaz has implemented a two-pronged methodology to reduce its environmental impact:

  • Emission reduction through the use of renewable energy sources and biofuels.

  • Energy sobriety by optimizing resource allocation—improving efficiency per unit of energy consumed.

DAT'Mountain: Dedicated monitoring infrastructure

To support this transition, DATIVE and SEIREL collaborated with La Clusaz to develop DAT'Mountain, a monitoring solution engineered specifically for mountain resort environments. The system enables operators to:

  • Measure and collect structural data (power consumption, meteorology, guest throughput, motor health metrics).

  • Analyze these variables via dedicated data visualization dashboards.

  • Implement continuous improvement workflows for operational processes.

  • Maintain optimal service levels while minimizing environmental impact.

Technical architecture focus: LoRaWAN

A core component of the DAT'Mountain architecture is the use of a private LoRaWAN radio communication network. This wireless infrastructure offers:

  • Rapid deployment of autonomous sensors with battery life ratings of up to 10 years.

  • Reliable radio coverage, utilizing a minimal gateway footprint to capture signals up to 20 km away.

  • Secure, encrypted connections to ensure data confidentiality.

Quantitated results: Carbon footprint reduction in La Clusaz

Since deploying DAT'Mountain, La Clusaz has documented measurable efficiency gains:

  • A 13% reduction in overall energy consumption over two consecutive winter seasons.

  • Increased operational alignment with environmental targets, including lift operators optimizing motor control strategies via eco-piloting methods.

  • An IoT ecosystem of 300 connected devices enabling data-driven, real-time decision-making.

Next phases of the DAT'Mountain deployment

The partnership between DATIVE, SEIREL, and La Clusaz is expanding. New technical use cases are currently under development, including the monitoring of artificial snow production networks and remote system control, in order to meet the CSR objectives of La Clusaz.
